Today marks the first full week without Lee Scheffler at IBM watching over DataStage.  Once the twinkle in the eye of a very bright member of the VMARK Software team, now centered inside the mist of a growing set of superior software offered by IBM.  In full disclosure, It was Lee that supported our endeavors to write “Version Control for DataStage” for release 6 and then 7. He was and still is a very large proponent of Third party applications.  He said recently, DataStage isn’t as popular as the iPhone, but close. Ascential purchased it from us, but this site was built to promote that product, the DSXchange was just a way to get folks to visit us. I guess on a good day, we can thank him for our 35,000 lifetime members.

This week didn’t feel any different from last week, but over time, we have a job on our collective hands.  We have to take up for Lee's loving watch over his “baby”.  We need to give ourselves a place to comment and communicate what we feel , not about just DataStage, but the whole InfoSphere Information Server Platform as it reaches into more and more businesses.  In the next couple weeks, we plan to set up a forum for suggestions and possible product improvements to be moderated by Lee.  As moderator, he will get to watch what we say and communicate back with ideas or direction we might do for a favorable outcome.  I think we call it ‘from the Sage of DataStage”

I have included a copy of Lee’s farewell letter to his mates.  I think you will find his perspective quite encouraging.
