December, 2009 Happy Holidays from the DSXchange! Amid the festive times that we enjoy around this time of year, we also tend to reflect on the past. This year, the past includes the recent passing of Pete Fiore. We think of St Nick as the father of Christmas, and I choose to think of “St. Pete” as the father of DataStage, at least from the marketing and vision perspective.
Any of us veterans, remember Pete as the energy behind the branding of the early DataStage product. The picture of this man, on top of the world, on one leg, juggling the icons of data, was secretly the image we had of Pete as he wanted DataStage to come from nowhere and conquer the world. He even reminds me of ole St. Nick, as everybody would remember the twinkle in his eye when he was sharing his vision.
Eight version releases later, his efforts now top the IBM InfoSphere brand with a full suite of products and services. DataStage and the time we spend around it, has brought us joy and success. Pete also brought us joy and success, as well as to his friends and family. I will be saying a little prayer for this great guy and his family. He will not be forgotten.
